The Eve Selis Band

March 11, 2000

The Eve Selis Band is undeniably talented and produces excellent music by anyone's standard. My reason for this particular page, and spotlighting this particular band to begin with, is to show the various ways the Internet and websites can and are used to promote musicians.

To begin with, I admit an obvious preference for MP3.Com. It is truly is the first place to go to make yourself heard on the Internet...and it's still FREE!

The Eve Selis Band has made excellent use of MP3.Com's services. May I suggest you follow this link: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/12/eve_selis.html and give the band a listen as you read this (I'm listening as I write!)?

On the band's MP3.Com site, you'll notice lots of tunes of course...but also the availability of those DAM CD's! DAM means Digital Audio Music and it's a "deal" for artists to sell CD's they don't have to make because MP3.Com makes them as they're ordered, and gets half of the price you set for each DAM CD. A simple, straightforward arrangement I can find no fault with. Amazing, in this day and age...

You'll also see photos, interviews, artist info, concert schedule, video, and my 2 favorite items...contact info and links to other artists. You can be the best of the best, but if you make it too difficult to contact you...no one will. And linking to other artists is a "no brainer", it's very easy to do and provides an extra avenue for their fans to find you, and vice-versa. Links ARE the Internet, really.

Another major plus, is that this site is "maintained". New info is added, and old info removed regularly. No one needs to know last year's concert dates...

Overall, an excellent site. Lots of "freebie" tunes, lots of info, easy to contact, and links well with others...I give it 430 out of a possible 440 Hz (an "A", remember?) only because there could be some improvement in the layout of the page. MP3.Com allows quite a bit of tweaking, and I think (aesthetically speaking) some refining could be done.

Part II

Eve has her own site: http://www.eveselis.com/ that is well laid out and provides a more "graphically" pleasing experience. It's a bit more intimate and personal in the overall look and feel. It provides similar information to the MP3.Com site, but in a more personal way...check out the bio's for a chuckle here and there.

Links are provided for most music, video and interview items...but not on the Discography page for some reason. I'd really like to hear her do The Walls Came Down or at least have a link to where I could either hear or buy it, like CD Now or some other vendor. The CD's are listed on the Merchandise page...where I had expected items like T-Shirts; hats; pins; posters; etc.

There's also the ever-ubiquitous Guestbook, which I signed of course. And a Links page...sparse, but effective. Maybe she'll include this site, after reading this!

I think they've done an excellent job of thanking those that have helped and supported Eve and the band. If you're thinking of putting together a website of your own, you should always remember those that help you out...and you'll most likely need help along the way!

I think Eve's site is more aesthetically pleasing than her MP3.Com site, and only slightly less useful due to not having direct music links. But that's a small pick at best. Her site gets a 430 Hz overall too.

In Closing...

http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/12/eve_selis.html
http://www.eveselis.com/

Both sites are very well prepared and maintained....and worth a look around! They both serve their purposes very well and accomplish their task in different, yet similar ways. The may be seen as different "facets" of the artist, not unlike each song we hear from her. It seems to me that Ms. Selis views the Internet and the web as another creative outlet, and MP3.Com as a facilitator for her creativity. Regardless, she appears to be quite at home on the net, as she is on stage.
