Why? Goals We have... RE: Sponsors The Story... Search

This site is dedicated to the promotion and proliferation of "jamming", as well as those musicians that actively participate in the act of "jamming".

Why We're Here...

This effort is particularly dedicated to Ed; John; Kevin; Daniel and Gino who were gracious enough to let me join in for my first time at The Metaphor Cafe's Blues Jam...and Riz; Monty; Rob; Julian; Pablo; Bob; Lee; Eric; Alex; Chris and many others that not only take part, they bring their own music and let me play along. Thanks, gentlemen!

The inspiration for this website came from Gino, and I've been piecing it together. We've met lots of jammer's that have computers and/or Internet access, but never really considered using it in support of their music or musicianship.

Originally named The Blues Jammer's Site, I changed it to The Jammer's Site! in recognition of the worldwide variety of musicians out there.
I'd like, every musician to feel welcome here.

Why? Goals We have... RE: Sponsors The Story... Search

Goals:

  1. To use the awesome (totally...) power of the Internet to bring together as many musicians as possible and to show them how they can use their computer and the Internet to be heard, get known, do multi-track recording, network with other musicians, even collaborate with others...anywhere in the world...as FREE as possible!
  2. To provide a central location for "musician-minded" net-surfers to find links to all kinds of musician oriented sites...personal and professional. I'm happy to mention and/or link to any site that promotes the concept of Jams/Open Mic's or otherwise provides a useful resource for musicians. I'm also happy to mention and/or link to any band or individual that has associated themselves with musician's resources.
  3. To provide info on local (San Diego County) players/jammers. Even if they do not have anything to do with computers or the Internet. If someone can provide me with contact information, some music, and maybe a brief biography, I will post it for them. I figure it will be one page, with one or two pictures tops...if they want anything more, I can help them setup their own web page.

We thought this would be a good way to provide "word of mouth" to find places to jam and people to jam with. So we're collecting that information and posting it here as much as possible.

We have Message Boards and a Chat Area, as well as an E-Mail List so you can keep in touch, announce gigs, ask or answer questions, let us know you have something for sale or need to buy, or anything else music or computer related.

We link to local (to San Diego) venues that host jam sessions and open mics, as well as band and player sites. There's also the Musician's Resources area where you'll find links to businesses and organizations that provide a service or product that might aid a player in learning; recording; promoting and/or otherwise dealing with being a musician.

We rely on your input to shape this site. Much like a jam session, the comments and suggestions from you will modify how this site evolves! By all means, jam on!

It's expressly NOT my goal to limit this site to guitar players or just jam sessions...if you're a drummer that needs to find a harp player or a singer that's looking for some old blues recordings...you should feel welcome here! I happen to be a guitar-player...so things are naturally going to flow that way, but I'm happy to accept and post any articles; comments; news; reviews; etc. from any other musicians that are willing to help.

A Word From Our Sponsors... I don't really have any. I intially made "affiliations" with 2 of the more useful (IMHO) sites on the net - MP3.Com and Musician's Friend. Since having to move the site to it's own host, I have found it necessary to establish a good many more affiliations in an attempt to at least get the site to pay for itself.
While there is a possibility of my receiving some money from these affiliations, I can only hope it's enough to cover my costs. It is certainly not the reason for establishing the site in the first place.
As of 4/26/2001, I have not received any form of payment from anyone, nor have I received anything more than an occasional "Thank You" for producing this site and it's content.

Thank you for being here!

The Jammer's Site Story So Far...

It all started at The Metaphor Cafe And Pub, which is located in beautiful downtown Escondido, California...part of San Diego's North County. It has become an Artist's Enclave of sorts, because of the atmosphere created by the artist-friendly owner, Jim.

Gino is a former employee and guitar player that set up, and used to run the Wednesday night blues jam sessions. He's formed a band called Whiskey and has been performing pretty regularly. Actual dates will appear on the band's site. Gino has recently produced his own web site too, CLICK HERE to check it out!

Dave is a computer geek and guitar player that wandered in one night, liked what was happening, and has been back many a Wednesday since. CLICK HERE to see all Dave's websites and see what a GEEK he really is! CLICK HERE for the story of his "Metaphoric Experience" in particular.
